14-year-old girl taken into custody after bringing a loaded firearm onto Willis HS campus: MCSO

WILLIS, Texas (KTRK) -- A 14-year-old student was taken into custody after bringing a loaded firearm onto the campus of Willis High School on Wednesday morning, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies say the incident occurred at 10:40 a.m., when a school administrator encountered students skipping class while conducting a bathroom check. According to MCSO, a subsequent search of one of the student's backpack revealed a loaded firearm.

The student, who is a 14-year-old girl, was taken into custody and is now being held at the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center, MCSO said.

There were no threats made by the students towards the school or classmates, authorities said.

Sheriff Wesley Doolittle released the following statement on Wednesday:

"Protecting our children, students, staff, and schools is a responsibility we do not take lightly.

This is of the utmost importance to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and we will continue working closely with Willis ISD to ensure the safety of every student remains the number one priority."
